Just Andersen was a Danish sculptor and silversmith who began his career working for Georg Jensen, A. Michelsen, and P. Hertz before establishing his own workshop in 1918. He is widely regarded as one of Denmark’s most significant designers of modern pewter.
Andersen worked primarily in pewter, bronze, and Discometal, a proprietary alloy he developed using lead and antimony to achieve the appearance of bronze at a more accessible cost. During the mid-1920s and early 1930s, he also collaborated with Swedish firms Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) and Guldsmedsaktiebolaget (GAB) in Stockholm.
His work is known for its restrained neoclassical and early modern forms. Andersen remained active until his death in 1943, after which his workshop continued briefly under the direction of his widow.
